Barcelona, 19th December 2007 – ADELTE, a world leading designer and constructor of state-of-the-art passenger boarding bridges for cruise and ferry terminals has received a repeat order by Costa Cruises to deliver another passenger boarding bridge of the HYDRA range for the Palacruceros Terminal in the port of Barcelona, Spain.
The Palacruceros Terminal was inaugurated in April this year and is located on the Adosado pier, in an area of approximately 5500 square metres. The terminal can accommodate cruise ships of any tonnage, length and capacity, including the largest liners currently in service. In this first year of operation, the cruise terminal has recorded a total of 150 calls and over 400.000 cruise passengers. For 2008, the cruise terminal expects a significant increase; 205 calls and over 600,000 cruise passengers.
This second passenger boarding bridge of the HYDRA range for Palacruceros will be identical but symmetric to the unit installed earlier this year. Sandra Yunta, General Manager of the Palacruceros Terminal, said: “With this second ADELTE passenger boarding bridge we will speed up operations, both on board the ship and at the terminal reaching the high quality of service that our companies require and improving the cruising experience of our guests’’.
The HYDRA boarding bridge has the capability to move along the whole quay and is able to connect with the various ship door entry levels. The cabin of the passenger boarding bridge is equipped with a uniquely integrated hydraulic, telescopic, docking ramp that, when attached to the side of a cruise ship automatically follows the vessel’s movements and will immediately undock in the event of an emergency. The clearance under the passenger boarding bridge will allow for continuous truck, equipment and supplies traffic on the quayside. ADELTE’s passenger boarding bridges are compliant with all up-to-date international safety and security standards.
